Annadan – The Most Sacred Offering to Ancestors

In the holy fortnight of Pitra Paksha, remembering and honouring our departed ancestors (Pitras) is considered one of life’s greatest duties. The Garuda Purana, Mahabharata, and Matsya Purana all describe that true Shraddha is not complete without nourishing the souls of our forefathers through selfless offerings.

While Tarpan and Pind Daan hold deep significance, scriptures declare that Annadan—offering food to the poor, saints, and pilgrims—is the highest and purest form of Shraddha.

From 7th to 21st September 2025, during the sacred days of Pitra Paksha, Sugam Darshan Foundation will conduct the Pitra Paksha Annadan Seva at Gaya Treeth Kshetra 
Through this seva, fresh sattvik vegetarian meals will be lovingly served to the poor, sadhus, and pilgrims—ensuring your heartfelt offerings reach those who truly need it.

By participating in this seva, you not only bring peace and upliftment to your ancestors’ souls, but also remove Pitru Dosha, while invoking divine blessings of health, prosperity, and protection for your entire family lineage.

Scriptural Glory of Annadan in Pitra Paksha

Garuda Purana describes that during Pitra Paksha, the Pitras descend to the earthly realm, awaiting sincere offerings from their descendants. When satisfied—especially through food offerings—they bestow abundant blessings.

In the Mahabharata (Anushasana Parva), Annadan is hailed as the ultimate duty, for feeding the hungry is equal to feeding the Pitras themselves in their divine realm.

The power of Annadan multiplies manifold during Pitra Paksha, making it an act of immeasurable punya (spiritual merit).
