Mythological History of Gaya:

Gaya is one of the important pilgrimage places of Bihar. This city is especially famous for Hindu pilgrims. The Vishnupad temple here is popular among tourists. In such a situation, Gayasur thought that if he did not do any big work, he would not get respect in his family. Thinking this, he became engrossed in doing rigorous penance for Lord Vishnu. After some time, being pleased with the harsh penance of Gayasur, Shri Hari Lord Vishnu himself appeared to him and being pleased with the harsh penance, asked him to ask for a boon. He asked for a boon from Lord Vishnu that I wish that you indirectly reside on this rock along with all the Gods and Goddesses and this place becomes a place of pilgrimage for religious rituals to be performed after death. Hearing this, Gayasur asked Lord Vishnu to reside physically in his body. So that whoever sees me, all his sins are destroyed, that living being becomes a virtuous soul and he attains heaven. Sri Hari gave him this boon, after this whoever saw him, all his troubles and sorrows would be relieved.

The city of Gaya is a holy place of Hinduism, with a large number of Hindu deities represented in its temples, carvings, paintings, and carvings. Of particular importance are sites associated with Vishnu in the city, notably the Phalgu River and the shrine of the Vishnupada temple, or Vishnupad, marked by a large footprint of the god Vishnu carved in a basalt block. Pind Daan is performed in many places in the country, but Pind Daan has a different significance in Gaya, Bihar. It is believed that by offering Pind Daan at Gaya Dham, the suffering of 7 generations is relieved. According to the story of Ramcharitra Manas, Lord Ram had performed Pind Daan of his father Dashrath in Gaya, and since then it has become known as a pilgrimage place. According to Hindu belief, during the days of Pitru Paksha, Yamraj frees the souls of the ancestors because, For 15 to 16 days, he could be satisfied by staying among his family members and drinking water and food. The word Shraddha is mostly used in our native language. We know this as Pitru Paksha. At this time, we perform Shraddha and Tarpan to our ancestors with pure feelings. According to Garun Purana, offering Pind Daan after death is an easy way for the soul to attain salvation. According to Valmiki Ramayana, Mother Sita Ji donated the body of her father-in-law Shri Raja Dashrath Ji while sitting on the banks of river Falgu. He took the banyan tree, Ketaki flowers, and cow as witnesses made a ball of sand and offered it to the Phalgu River. That's why this tradition is going on. That's why all Indians and those who follow the Sanartan religion perform Pind.

Mystery of Tarpan Ka in Gaya: Mother Sita had performed tarpan here. By offering Pind Daan in Gaya, the soul attains salvation, hence this place is also called the place of salvation. It is said that Lord Vishnu himself resides in Gaya in the form of Pitrudev.
