Mythological History: 

Kaal Bhairav ​​Temple is a Hindu temple located in the city of Varanasi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This temple is the oldest temple of Varanasi which is completely dedicated to the fierce form of Lord Shiva i.e. Kaal Bhairav. Kaal means death and time. It is said that Lord Shiva used to assume this form only when he had to kill someone. Kashi was a very favorite city of Lord Shiva, hence Lord Shiva had appointed Kaal Bhairav ​​as the area's governor i.e. Kotwal. That is why it is said that Kaal Bhairav ​​also has the right to punish the people of Kashi. In the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, there is a silver idol of Kaal Bhairav, which is seated on Bhairav's vehicle, a dog.

The present temple was built in the 17th century. It is believed that the old temple was destroyed by the Islamic conquest of North India and was rebuilt in the 17th century.It is believed that Lord Shiva had appointed Kaal Bhairav ​​as the Kotwal of Kashi so that he could protect the body of Mother Sati. According to mythological beliefs, a part of the body of Mata Sati had fallen into the form of a body in Kashi, which is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of Mata. The place where the body part had fallen is known as Vishalakshi Temple. It is said that Lord Shiva used to assume this form only when he had to kill someone. Kashi was a very favorite city of Lord Shiva, hence Lord Shiva had appointed Kaal Bhairav ​​as the area governor i.e. Kotwal of this place. Therefore, it is said that Kaal Bhairav ​​also has the right to punish the people of Kashi. Bhairav ​​Nath or the child form of Lord Shiva is worshiped as Batuk Bhairav. It is said that the Lord was born from the third eye of Lord Shiva. The temple has been associated with the history of Varanasi for many centuries and there are no details of when the temple was actually built. Apart from this, there are many miracles associated with the temple which can be heard as folklore.

 The temple is open from 05:00 AM to 01:30 PM and from 04:30 PM to 09:30 PM.
